Referees List
The World Cup 2018 begins in less than a week’s time and as you may have noticed, here at Fortune Frenzy we’ve been compiling a comprehensive guide to the competition. In previous articles we’ve looked at the betting odds on each team, who may win certain group stage matches, and who are the players to watch.
In this guide, however, we’re talking about the men who have the power to change the way in which the whole World Cup plays out – the referees of course!
The World Cup 2018 referees will be plagued with the task of judging each of the matches, and will undoubtedly have to make some tough decisions. We may not always agree with them, and we may scream at the TV when they make a verdict we disagree with, but there’s no avoiding the fact that in this international competition, they’re the judge and the jury.
This means that many of you may want to know exactly who may be officiating the matches you’re interested in. Not only can one referee’s decisions change the whole outcome of the game but in doing this they could affect your World Cup 2018 wagers! Luckily for you, in this article we’re looking at all thirty-six referees who are travelling to Russia for the competition, how they were selected and where they come from.
How Were the World Cup 2018 Referees Selected?
In order to make sure all of the thirty six referees of the World Cup 2018 are both competent and unbiased, FIFA have chosen the officials ‘based on each referee’s skills and personality, as well as his level of understanding of football and ability to read both the game and the various tactics employed by teams’.
Basically, this means that all of the thirty-six referees present at the World Cup 2018 will have plenty of international experience and have proven to be impartial in the past.
What’s more, the referees present at the competition have been selected from across all of the six continental FIFA federations; the AFC, the CAF, CONCACAF, CONMEBOL, OFC and UEFA. This is to make sure that the referees understand different playing styles and to make sure that there is no conflict of interest.
