The 21st World Cup kicks off in just a few days. Everyone’s eyes will be on the Luzhniki Stadium on the 14th June, where hosts, Russia, will take on Saudi Arabia. Russia will have the attention of the whole football world, hosting a month of fantastic international football. We cannot wait for the action to begin!

This has been a long time coming for Russia, who found out they would be hosting the tournament back in 2010. The preparations for the biggest football tournament of them all began from December of that year, and 11.8 billion dollars has been spent on these preparations.

Fans from around the world will enjoy watching football in nine sparkling new stadiums which have been built especially for the World Cup. In this article we will highlight all the stadiums which will be used in Russia.

World Cup 2018 Russia

This will be the first time that Russia has hosted the World Cup, and Russia has assured the world that this will be a grand spectacle. The vastness of Russia will make the World Cup atmosphere rather scattered and fans are likely to have completely different experiences based on where they are staying.

Still, the tournament has been set up in the most practical way possible with all the World Cup locations being situated in or just outside of the European side of Russia.

World Cup 2018 Russia Stadiums

The stadia for the World Cup are certainly impressive and are befitting of the tournament which they are going to hold.

The main host city is Moscow, unsurprisingly where there are two stadiums which will be used for the World Cup. The two main stadiums are the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow and the Krestovsky Stadium in St Petersburg.

The Moscow Stadiums

  • Luzhniki Stadium. 81,000 capacity. The main stadium at the World Cup. The Luzhniki Stadium will host seven matches and these include the opening match, one of the semi-finals and the World Cup final
  • Otkritie Arena. 45,360 capacity

The Saint Petersburg Stadium

  • Krestovsky Stadium. 68,134 capacity. The second largest stadium to be used at the World Cup. Seven matches will be played here, including one of the semi-finals, and the third-place play-off match

The Rostov-on-Don Stadium

  • Rostov Arena. 45,000 capacity

The Kazan Stadium

  • Kazan Arena. 45,379 capacity

The Sochi Stadium

  • Fisht Olympic Stadium. 47,659 capacity

The Samara Stadium

  • Cosmos Arena. 44,918 capacity

The Volgograd Stadium

  • Volgograd Arena. 45,568 capacity

The Saransk Stadium

  • Mordovia Arena. 44,442 capacity

The Nizhny Novgorod Stadium

  • Nizhny Novgorod Stadium. 44,899 capacity

What will happen at the World Cup remains to be seen, but what we can be sure of is that these are the stadiums which will be used in Russia for the World Cup. The time has very nearly arrived for the World Cup to finally commence!
