Golden Glove Award Odds

The World Cup begins very soon indeed and for football fans around the world, the anticipation is almost at bursting point. The 14th June is the date the 21st World Cup begins with a Group A clash between Saudi Arabia and hosts, Russia.

Today we are going to look at a bet which is probably not the first which crosses the minds of sport betters. The Golden Glove award is given to the best performing goalkeeper at the World Cup. Real legends of the game have won this award in the past.

Previous winners include Ricardo Zamora, Gyula Grosics, Gordon Banks, Sepp Maier, Dino Zoff, Oliver Khan, Gianluigi Buffon and Iker Casillas. Quite an illustrious list!

World Cup 2018 Golden Glove Award

There are definitely a few contenders this year. The following goalkeepers are the ones we feel are most likely to win the award.

Hugo Lloris

The Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper has quick reflexes, athleticism and is a very good shot stopper and distributor. He has been one of the best performing goalkeepers in world football for a few years now. France have an excellent team and, with a very capable defence in front of him, Lloris could enjoy a fantastic tournament.

David De Gea

In our opinion, De Gea is the best goalkeeper in the world right now. Consistently producing performances of the very highest order, the Manchester United goalkeeper is our favourite to win the award. Spain have a very good defence and if De Gea can play at his highest level, it will take something special to actually get the ball in the Spanish net!

Manuel Neuer

Neuer is the favourite at many sportbooks to win the award, as he did in 2014. He is undoubtedly a world class goalkeeper, but we predict that his lack of game time over the past year will really affect his performances. A contender for sure, but we don’t think the Germany goalkeeper will win the award this time.

Thibaut Courtois

If you want to take a bit of a gamble and take advantage of some wide odds, the Belgian giant could be a good option for your Golden Glove award bet. Courtois has all the attributes a modern-day goalkeeper needs, and he certainly has a great team playing in front of him. A bit of a dark horse in this list.

Alison Becker

The Brazilian goalkeeper is in the top 2 or 3 favourites to win the award at most sportbooks. Brazil’s defence is much better than ones they have had in previous World Cups and Becker may have a very good tournament. Still, we don’t think the Roma goalkeeper is the best option with the odds on offer.
