When you visit an online casino for the first time, you may feel inundated with promises of free cash, extra bonuses and special promotions. Casinos offer players, new and existing, bonuses and promotions to keep them interested in the site and to make sure they’re rewarded for their spending.
We understand that sometimes these bonuses can seem more complicated than meets the eye and it’s always a good idea to read through terms and conditions before grabbing yourself a reward. Today, we’re talking you through some of the most popular types of bonuses you’ll encounter when playing at online casinos. These include match deposit bonuses, no deposit bonuses, cash back bonuses and extra spins.
No Deposit Bonuses
A no deposit bonus is probably the first you’ll encounter when you sign up to a new casino. It’s the type of bonus that casinos use to attract new players as it’s highly rewarding. A no deposit bonus is basically free cash. You’ll most commonly receive it upon registration to a new casino and it offers you some money to spend whilst you test the waters. A no deposit bonus can be spent whilst playing the games on the site, and gives you a little extra time before you make the plunge and deposit.
However, no deposit bonuses are usually tied to quite high wagering requirements. If you’re not in the know with your casino lingo, a wagering requirement is basically the number of times you need to play through the cash before you can withdraw. So for instance, if your casino offers a 30x wagering requirement, on a bonus of £10, you’ll need to spend £300 before you can withdraw the free cash. At some casinos wagering requirements can seem unreasonable, but remember, the bonus isn’t actually for withdrawing. Use it wisely — to try out new games or to make sure you like the casino’s roster.
Match Deposit Bonuses
Match deposit bonuses are generally represented by a percentage. They offer players the chance of multiplying their deposits by a certain figure. For example, a 100% match deposit bonus is essentially doubling your deposit. Match deposit bonuses always have a maximum amount that can be claimed so they’re generally worded like this, ‘100% deposit match bonus, up to £500.’
Using the hypothetical bonus above we’ll talk you through how much you could expect. If you deposited the full amount, this would mean you ended up with £1,000 to play with. That means you’ve deposited £500, and it’s been matched by the casino. You don’t have to deposit the full amount, however. For example if you deposited £30, you’d end up with a total of £60 to play with.
Sometimes casinos will offer other percentage figures, like 50% or 200%. 200% means your deposit will be tripled. For example if you deposit £20, you’ll end up with £60 to play with (200% of 20 is 40). A 50% bonus means that the casino will reward you with half of what you’ve deposited. For example, a £10 deposit would be turned into £15 to play with.
As before, match deposit bonuses are also tied to wagering requirements, meaning you can’t withdraw your bonus cash as soon as you receive it.
Cash Back Bonuses
A cash back bonus is a specific reward for existing players. The bonus will be awarded based on how much money you’ve spent in the casino over a certain period of time. This kind of bonus is sort of like a refund, which can be given in bonus money, or sometimes real cash. It’s generally awarded to players after calculating how much money they have lost whilst playing. The casino offers to reward you with a percentage of your net losses.
These promotions are perhaps some of the best for players, as they work based around money you’ve already wagered — so you’ve really got nothing to lose by participating. Cash back bonuses are usually worded as such: receive up to £500 cash back every week. To unpack this promotion, you need to look at what percentage cash back the casino is offering. So, for instance, if they are offering 10% cash back, up to £500, you’d have to have spent £5,000 to receive the full amount of cash back.
Extra Spins Bonuses
Extra spins bonuses are, personally, my favourites. They’re more often than not handed out to new players or when a new slot is launched. They are almost as simple as they sound, and basically give players a certain amount of extra spins. These spins are usually rewarded when a deposit is made, e.g. you deposit £10 and are rewarded with 50 extra spins.
Generally, extra spins are only allowed to be played on certain slots. If a new slot is being promoted, it’s likely that you’ll need to exclusively play your extra spins on that slot, whilst at other times they may offer them to be played over a range of different games. On top of this, extra spins are usually prescribed a certain amount per spin. You’ll find this amount in the terms and conditions and this will be something like, 40p per spin. Extra spins are particularly rewarding for players as part of the joy of slots is that you never know what could happen with a single spin!
