When you win a big juicy jackpot on Fortune Frenzy and fancy booking a top sizzling holiday aboard make sure your mobile phone and any other electronic device for that matter is fully charged before jumping on a plane.

Stay in charge

When arriving at the airport you may be asked to turn on all your electronic device in front of security personnel, including your prized smartphone, to demonstrate it has enough power to board your flight.

By turning on your mobile device the electric charge will aid electronic scanners used by security teams in discovering whether the mobile phone is a legitimate working device or whether the devices has a more sinister purpose. U.S. security personnel are particularly worried about the new wave of so called ‘British and other Western jihadists’ returning from Syria and Iraq to carry out suicide missions.

Fill up, don’t top up

What’s more worrying however is that if the device does not meet the required level of charge either the commuter will not be allowed to fly or the device will be taken away from them before boarding the plane.

Airport security

Other reports stress that even if someone was to buy a device from the airport itself it will need charging before embarking on to an aircraft.

One other possible problem faced by commuters is when connecting to other flights on the same day. These long journeys may deplete the battery of the device on the first flight thus causing major connection problems on the second part of their journey.

Security increase

UK airports claim the move has come about after requests by U.S. authorities after intelligence reports suggest new bombs are being developed by terrorist organisations.

This also means that all those passengers who fail to charge their device maybe reported to U.S. security officials.

Are you happy with the new rules on mobile phones and other devices enforced by airports?

Do you think the extra few minutes hassle is a good thing, especially when safety is concerned?
