football betting

The Football Association has rolled out new rules on coaches and players betting on ANY worldwide footballing activity.

Stop the rot

The new rules introduced and enforceable by the Football Association (FA) this week have been implemented in order to stop the spread of match-fixing allegations surrounding the game in recent months.

The FA have stated that they are proud of the integrity of the English game and want to send a clear message to all those involved that betting on football in football is prohibited.

Rules overview

  • The rules apply to ALL the 8 tiers of the English game
  • Anyone associated with the game is banned from betting on any football game worldwide
  • No bets on goalscorers, in-game play etc are completely off limits

House call

Officials from the FA will be visiting clubs to talk to players and staff through the new rules and to clear any misunderstandings up in the process.

As well as those closely associated to the game, club employees as well as match officials are included in the rules as well as club stakeholders.

Rules are rules

The rules are applicable to all bets made either by person, online, or by phone. Placing bets with friends is also a big no no. Anyone wanting to place a bet through someone on their behalf or through a third party will also be disappointed.

The previous rules prohibited individuals from betting on games they could influence or be involved in. So far several players including Andros Townsend are in breach of the new rules and conditions and await possible repercussions.
