Several casinos in America have banned the Google Glass from being worn in their establishments. Worried about the potential for cheating, regulators say the danger lies in the new technology’s ability to browse the internet, film and take pictures.
Not due to come out until the back end of 2013, the Google Glass has been forbidden in a handful of casinos from Las Vegas to Ohio. The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement was the latest to issue a directive on Monday ordering 12 casinos to ban players from using the device. According to the division’s director, if the glasses were worn in a poker game, they could be used to broadcast a casino member’s hand.
This ban comes as little surprise, considering there is prohibition against filming and photography in most casinos. In New Jersey, 5 days notice must be given before any photos or films are to be taken within casinos.
There are similar, growing concerns over the Google Glass in terms of people’s privacy. Despite an offer from an American company to develop a feature on the device that would have facial recognition, Google have declined due to the public’s privacy reservations. However, Google have assured critics that they won’t add this controversial feature to the product without the proper protection in place.
In a world where technology is becoming more advanced, there continues to be increasing concerns in the gambling industry over a player’s privacy. There are many ways people can cheat as a result of technological developments, but at the same time, the growing market also gives opportunities for a better gambling experience. Here at Fortune Frenzy, we found that many people are turning to mobile gaming instead of venturing to the casino. Whether this is due to a rising interest, or the fact that mobile gambling is seen as more reliable, at Fortune Frenzy the opportunity to cheat is eradicated and playing is always safe and secure.
