Over a week ago we reported on The Great Eastend Murder Conspiracy, casting an eye over the chief suspects in the Lucy Beale murder mystery. Like all conspiracy’s, there were many twists, turns and daft theories but finally after a full 30-minute live episode, the unexpected return of Kathy Beale, fluffed lines and the long-awaited reveal of Lucy Beale’s killer, finally we discovered the truth.
I say we, but in fact we were joined by around 20 million people that week, yup, Eastenders’ 30th anniversary birthday celebrations reached around 35% of the UK population, according to the BBC, meaning that this was its best performing period in four years for the soap and the worst for pubs all around the country.
Of course, one pub that was full to the brim with activity was The Queen Vic which incidentally must have had its best performing period for years in snacks and drinks sales given the amount of footfall it experienced recently. With a child-birth in the toilet, a wedding party, fisty-cuffs in the cellar and the appearance of old faces The Old Vic was choc-a-bloc.
Looking back, the whole murder mystery took almost a year to unravel and yet with almost 12 months of preparation that still couldn’t prevent Jo Joyner (aka Tanya Branning) ending up calling Ian Beale, one of the soap’s longest serving actors, by his real name Adam during a conversation with Jane about Ian’s character – just have a look below!
However, in Jo’s defence she wasn’t the only one to trip over her words, and to be fair it’s not surprising given around 20 million pairs of eyes were glaring at them for over a week.
Regardless, like it or not, we now know the killer was Bobby Beale (Lucy’s brother). Heck, even a confused, unassuming Californian knew who killed Lucy, no thanks to the shed-load of abusive tweets she received.
Bobby Beale, an American teenager from California, was branded a murderer via Twitter – because she has the same name as Eastenders most dangerous infant. Angry fans of the show tweeted Bobby their disgust at the evil murder and naturally, she was very confused!
Why are 3 people from Scotland that I don’t know, tweeting me about killing someone named Lucy…
