LGG4 phone

With Samsung and HTC unveiling their powerful flagship devices at the end of the first quarter in 2015, LG will arrive late to the party with the 28th of April penned in for their reveal of the LG G4. But, will it be good enough giving the competition?

Different Galaxy

Although HTC’s new phone; the M9 One is impressive, and will no doubt have many loyal to the HTC brand salivating at it’s design, Samsung has clearly upped the stakes and created a beast of a smartphone in the s6 and S6 Edge. The S6 boasts the most powerful hardware yet with its octa-core chipset and 3gb of RAM and it’s no ugly duckling either.

LG need to step up their game quick with their new device if they want a meaningful slice of the market.

Leaky Start

So far, leaked information about the phone’s specifications has been aplenty but sifting through fact from fiction is proving difficult. However, the general trend based on anecdotal evidence seems to be that the LG G4 won’t match Samsung’s effort for power.

Damp Squib?

Reports suggest that the LG G4 could be in-line for a less powerful hexa-core chipset with the reasoning being that oct-cores (found in the M9 One and the S6) overheat too much and consume too much power. If this is correct, LG has taken a clever, if not risky gamble with that move, after all, bigger, faster processors mean a lot to savvy smartphone users, but so does battery life. In this case, it is very much wait and see.

In Focus

Another specification worthy of note, and this is official, is the camera on the device. It’s going to be a smartphone game-changer if the pictures and spec’s add up as featured in The Verge recently.

What we know about the camera is this: the camera will perform and operate very much like a DSLR proving professional looking images with its ‘expert features’ such as aperture changing and shutter speed.

The camera also features an f/1.8 sensor which will allow more light for image processing and better pictures taken in the dark. The camera may also contain a ‘time-lapse’ feature but this is still to be confirmed.

April 28th
