Wilson Raj Perumal, a convicted match-fixer and Singapore businessman embroiled with the match-fixing allegations surrounding the Cameroon and Croatia game during this World Cup has denied predicting the match result.

German defence

The German magazine Der Spiegel claimed that Wilson correctly predicted the match result of the Cameroon and Croatia game before kick-off: 4-0 to Croatia with a Cameroon player to be sent off.

When speaking to the BBC Der Spiegel stated that they ‘firmly stand by our assertion, that Mr Perumal wrote in a Facebook chat some hours before the World Cup match Croatia v Cameroon, that the result of the match will be a 4-0-victory for Croatia and that a player of Cameroon will get a red card in the first half.”

Fix-up

Wilson Raj PerumalThis is not the first time Wilson has been at the centre of match fixing claims. In 2011, Wilson was jailed in Finland of fixing games.

In April a book was published that claimed Wilson arranged for individual players from one unnamed team during the Beijing Olympics to kick-off first in two different matches.

Although he denies the claims made against him during this World Cup he has also been accused of influencing qualifying for the 2010 World Cup.

He has however since apologised to Cameroon’s Football Federation for any distress caused.

Facebook falsities

Wilson also goes on to claim that the Facebook chat with Der Spiegel actually took place after the match. “At no time did I suggest I had any way of corroborating or substantiating what was meant to be an educated guess based on my extensive match-fixing experience.”

The International centre for Sport Security (ICSS) since commented that no suspicious acts had been taken.

FIFA have stated that they would not comment on the details of this report.

Meanwhile allegations of fraud within Cameroon’s Football Federation are ongoing.
