At Fortune Frenzy we have recently conducted a survey investigating the way we use our smartphones. Our figures overwhelmingly found that we’re using our mobiles increasingly often and in more locations, and that we’re progressively using them for entertainment rather than business.
A mere 21% of those surveyed claimed to use their phone for business reasons, whereas a more significant 62% used them for playing games.
Arguably, the figures even imply that our mobile phones offer us a welcomed distraction from boredom. 82% of commuters consider their smartphones a necessity whilst travelling, and a surprising 66% of people even use them whilst on the toilet!
Interestingly, mobile phones added almost another layer of entertainment for a great deal of respondents. 91% of people, according to our survey, play on their mobiles whilst watching TV. A more fascinating 22% even use their device when eating, highlighting that for some, social decorum has gone through a shift since the launch of smartphones.
This shift in mobile habits was further present in the surprisingly regular amount of times respondents check their phones. According to our survey, 57% of us habitually check our phones every 10 minutes or less, and a considerable third of us spend approximately two hours or more on them per day.
Our survey found that people are using their phones for a variety of reasons, but that mobile gambling is becoming more widespread as a smartphone activity. Just under a third of those who owned a mobile phone gamble on their device, and 34% of these users gamble approximately once per week. 37% of those who don’t yet gamble on their mobile devices even declared that they would consider it in the future.
This demonstrates that the future of mobile gaming is due even further growth than it has already received. We are using or phones in far more locations, depending on them increasingly to relieve boredom, to entertain us, and to add excitement to our everyday tasks.
