NetEnt have just released the first footage of their new slot game, Fairytale Legends: Red Riding Hood. The footage was published last week on their Youtube channel and showed a lengthy six minute demo of all the latest slot’s features. Alongside the footage reveal was the announcement of a Touch, or mobile, version of the slot set for release on the same day — a tradition with NetEnt at this point. Below, we’ve got both the footage NetEnt released and our own breakdown of the features revealed in the demo, so you can get up to speed before its release on the 24th October.
NetEnt’s Fairytale Legends: Red Riding Hood Slot
The slot may be over a month and a half away, but already we have an incredible glimpse into what to expect from next month’s main NetEnt release. Given that this slot has a main title in the form of Fairytale Legends, we can’t be sure yet if this is the start of an all new series, much like how the NetEnt Rocks series of slots expanded into a trilogy. On the other hand, NetEnt have also named their previous slots with a main title, such as Theme Park: Tickets of Fortune, yet there’s no evidence to suggest that there are any further theme park themed slots in development.

Red Riding Hood’s Basic Slot Features
Red Riding Hood is a fairly traditional slot on the face of it. Players will find a 5×3 reel slot, complete with 20 paylines, wild symbols and scatter symbols that access a bonus round. However, it’s not so much the nature of the bonus features that make Red Riding Hood stand out, but simply the bulk quantity of features that are packed into it.
To start with, wild symbols are sticky and they offer players a free re-spin whenever they land a wild. This means that every time players spin a wild, it remains on the reels and then they get a extra spin, with the wild remaining in place. If they manage to spin another wild during this extra spin, then they will receive yet another free re-spin, this time with both wilds remaining on the reels. This will continue until they don’t spin a fresh wild on their re-spin.
These wild symbols are also included in all the bonus features which involve the reels spinning, meaning that there’s always a chance to get extra additional free re-spins regardless of what mode you’re playing in. We’ll go into more detail below about what the bonus features and random features of the slot have to offer.
Treasure Chest Bonus Rounds
Whenever three treasure chest scatter symbols are spun, players will unlock one of three bonus rounds. Which bonus round the player receives is entirely random, but it’ll always be either:
- Beware The Wolf
- Extra Spins
- Coin Win
Beware The Wolf is a board game style mini game where players will spin a dice to move red riding hood through a trail dotted with multipliers and a wolf. The aim is to get red riding hood to grandma’s cottage, where the player will receive a massive multiplier on top of any they’ve collected along the way. If players land on a multiplier then they get to continue and take another roll, but if they land on the same area as the wolf then the round ends and they leave with all their collected multipliers.
The wolf will hide randomly in the area where the player is moving, either disguising himself as a bush or as a sheep. If the wolf is hidden in a bush then he will only take up one area, but if he is disguised as a sheep, then he’ll move around, potentially catching red riding hood across multiple areas.
This version of the board game style bonus is interesting because it differs to previous iterations we’ve seen. The wolf stalking red riding hood around the board and changing how he attacks is very different to the static obstacles we’re used to seeing. On top of that, the board also has several different paths the player can take, giving them much more choice when it comes to how they make their way to the end goal.
Extra spins and coin wins are much more simple bonus rounds to receive. If players gain a extra spins round, then they’ll be given 10 extra spins to win as much cash as they can. Sticky wild re-spins will also be available during this round, so players get even more chances to win big money.
If the player lands a coin win, then they’ll be given an immediate random cash payout before being taken straight back to the base game.
Random Fairy Feature
The Red Riding Hood slot also includes random features which can activate at any time during the base game. Much like the scatter symbols, the random fairy feature will also randomly select one out of three special features to play. These features will only be available for a single spin of the slot, so they are a fast paced bonus. The random fairy feature can trigger:
- Fairy Magic Spin – Adds multiple random symbols of one kind onto the slot before the reels land
- Fairy Wild Spin – Adds additional wild symbols onto the slot, which then cause a free re-spin
- Fairy Surprise – Turns various letter symbols (low value) into a single type of picture symbol (high value) after the reels have landed
The most interesting of the random features is the fairy wild spin, which in conjunction with the sticky wild re-spins, greatly improves players chances of winning a big, or even mega win, as they get multiple spins with reels packed with wild symbols.
Since the fairy feature is a randomly activated bonus, it’s an incredible addition to an already bonus packed slot. We’re not sure what the return to player rate of the slot is at present, so we’re not sure if the fairy feature will even turn up that much, but at the moment, the idea of it is intriguing enough.
NetEnt Release Red Riding Hood On October 24th
NetEnt have continued to throw out inventive game after inventive game, and Fairytale Legends: Red Riding Hood looks no different. The little red riding hood theme has been tackled before by other slot developers, but never with such a strong push for bonus rounds that NetEnt’s latest attempt appears to be offering up. The high numbers of bonus rounds mimics the style of the NetEnt Rocks trilogy so closely, that we’d put our money on news of a sequel turning up within the year.
