Industry insiders at Slush 2013 believe the new Finnish game Supernaughts to be the next big supernauts_screenshot_655px-e1332221706426thing in the mobile gaming industry.

The leading start up conference in northern Europe and Russia believes this mobile game, a puzzle platformer game that’s reminiscent of Minecraft, could be the latest gaming sensation after very positive reviews from Canada.

Grand Cru is the developers of the game, and has been working on it for a total of two years. Their first game to launch within the mobile gaming space, Supernaughts plays on the social success of games such as Candy Crush and Clash of Clans’.

The company received $16million investment mostly from Finland’s funding agency for technology and innovation Tekes, even before the beta tests were ready. Supernaughts is currently doing well in the Canadian Apple App store with rumours of a launch date for the UK in early December.

Markus Pasula, founder of Grand Cru, claims Supernaughts to be the “most ambitious phone and tablet game ever made”, commenting that the company had to make a conscious effort to look to the future when tackling the complicated coding necessary for the game.  If they were to keep up with the rapid rate at which the mobile industry develops, it was important to “be adaptable and and [avoid] building structures that limit your ability to change.”

As for the games itself, it reportedly has the addictive qualities of angry birds, a good quality of social interaction like in Clash of Clans’ and a freemium sales model despite the set-up’s recent controversy.
