gamble

I am often amused by the many strange laws and customs from around the world.

There are far, far too many to name them all, but here are a couple that have stuck in my mind:

In France it is illegal to name a pig Napoleon! And chewing gum is illegal in Singapore! Crazy, eh?

Crazy Gambling Laws

It seems that there are also a few weird laws out there connect to gambling too.

For instance, bingo is illegal in Brazil! That strange piece of information got me thinking; what other strange gambling laws are there out there?

Here are my top 5 in no particular order.

1. North Carolina, USA.

In North Carolina it is illegal for any bingo game to last more than 5 hours.

I wish I had been in the room when they were making that decision… “Five hours? Yes, that’s perfectly fine. Five hours and one minute??? Totally unacceptable!”

2. Kenya, Africa.

Gambling is illegal in Kenya. Why? Because there are too many ‘cheetahs’ in the country. Sorry. Not an actual law, just a bad joke from myself 😉

3. Monte Carlo, Monaco.

In Monte Carlo the local citizens are actually banned from playing at the world famous casino.

Yes, it’s true! Although Monte Carlo is probably best known for it’s Grand Prix and Casino, the residents can only sample one of those delights.

Don’t worry though, there are no restrictions for us foreigners! Let’s go guys…

4. South Africa, Africa.

Greyhound racing is banned in South Africa because it is considered ‘animal cruelty’.

However, horse racing is not banned or considered animal cruelty- despite the jokey repeatedly whipping the horse during the race!!!

5.  Schulter Oklahoma, USA.

And finally, another one from the USA… It is illegal for a woman to gamble if she is wearing any of the following: only lingerie, only a towel, or is completely naked.

I’m guessing that’s because she would distract the male gamblers from the game.

Well, I’d definitely be distracted…
