Wimbledon is now under way – with the world’s best tennis players fighting it out to win the most important tennis tournament of the season. Who will win the men’s singles tournament? And who looks set, game and match to go all the way to the final. Here’s our predictions…
The Scot has been in outstanding form during the grass court season to date. The last time he was defeated was to Djokovic in a five set thriller at the French Open, since then, he has claimed his fourth Queen’s title. And he’s on the money, to do the double whammy this year as well, with a predicted back to back win at Wimbledon and Queen’s. Murray is 47-7 this year. Do you think he’s got the balls to win the Men’s Singles final? We definitely do.
There is only one name that comes to mind when it comes to talking about the potential ladies’ singles winner at Wimbledon – that of Serena Williams. With no distractions to her game, now that she’s pulled out of the doubles tournament, she’s looking to pounce on the playing order who are currently in state of chaotic disarray. No doubt, the American has to be on-course to complete the ‘Serena Slam’.
The Swiss Miss of tennis goes for another title at this year’s Wimbledon, teamed with Sania Mirza. The two joined forces at Indian Wells, California, and they haven’t looked back since, with an outstanding victory at the Miami Open.
Hingis, of Hurden, Switzerland, won the Miami doubles title last year with Sabine Lisicki, as well as in 1998 and ’99 with Jana Novotna. Hingis won singles titles at Miami in 1997 and 2000. She has an outstanding career record of 43 doubles titles to match her 43 singles titles. The Swiss Miss will surely not miss her shot at the Wimbledon women’s doubles title – without a shadow of a doubt.
Vancouver’s Vasek Pospisil and American partner Jack Sock won the Wimbledon men’s doubles title last year; however, they’re on the back foot this year as they’re defending their title. A random string of text messages between acquaintances paired Wimbledon’s victorious men’s doubles team, and since that unexpected feat, Jack Sock and Vasek Pospisil have shared a tennis bromance. This year will be more of the same – we predict they will go all the way.
