Google claims that the new update, which has been named XE12, is faster than the voice action or the camera button on the piece of technology, and has great potential to be developed for future uses. The feature can already upload and share videos on YouTube practically instantly.

In a blog post written by the technology giant, Google comments “imagine a day when you’re riding in the back of a cab and you just wink at the meter to pay […] You wink at a pair of shoes in a shop window and your size is shipped to your door. You wink at a recipe cookbook and the instructions appear right in front of you –hands-free, no mess, no fuss.”

Competitive Market

The wearable technology market is due to massive expansion, according to Juniper Research, with many of Google’s competitors releasing similar products in the last couple of months, including Samsung, Nike and Japanese mobile operator NTT Docomo.

According to Juniper Research, by 2018 the wearable technology market is expected to have annual sales of over $19bn, which is up by $1.4bn on this year. On the other hand the bank Credit Suisse is generally more positive about a suggested figure, expecting the market to make approximately $50bn by the same date.

However, concerns have been raised about the invasive nature of the Google Glass, with critics commenting on its impact on privacy.
