With Apple becoming increasingly silent on any of their tech releases this year Samsung and LG are preparing for the silence to be broken very soon.
Apple is rumoured to be ready to announce the much anticipated so called i-watch as early as the 9th of September. Although the industry has reportedly gotten wise to Apple’s silence before its announcements the silence is certainly becoming deafening for Samsung and LG as they race to secure customers for their own wearable tech before Apple takes centre stage.
Wearable technology
Samsung and LG’S previous wearable tech efforts received much criticism, especially their Android watches, from an aesthetic point of view. The technology was generally accepted as bulky and cumbersome.
This year however, it is reported that Samsung’s latest effort with the smart-watch will feature a classy curved screen whereas LG have reportedly aimed to make their new Android watch look more like a classic wrist watch than the boxy affair it offered previously.
Apple announcement
Apple’s announcement will be expected to be made at next month’s IFA conference in Berlin which is essentially one of Europe’s largest consumer electronics shows. The reasoning behind the expected announcement by Apple is due to Samsung launching its first Android smart watch last year at the event.
Technology analyst Ben Wood told the BBC in a recent interview that Samsung look like they are purposefully wanting to do something different in the market, almost experimental if you like, to counter Apple’s impending launch.
Beautiful design
With its scurvy screen and sleek looks the South Korean firm could well and truly spoil Apple’s party especially when learning that Samsung’s device will also have space for a sim-card meaning that the smart watch could become a standalone product, something not seen yet with Android wearable tech.
It’s reported that if Samsung and LG manage to nail-on the devices as fashion pieces and make a bold fashion statement with their devices they could make a big dent in their competitors bottom-line.
Fashion statement
Ultimately, as Ben Wood confirms, watches are fashion statements, it’s a primary concern for consumers when purchasing a time-piece.
With this in mind, LG’s watch sounds promising too as it is reported to have analogue-style hands to display the time.
We look forward to seeing more details of the devices and when more news appears in the next coming weeks we shall keep you up to date with the on-goings and announcements during the IFA event in Berlin as they happen.
