Blackjack is definitely one of the most well know forms of gambling, as it is the most widely played casino game in the world.

Subsequently, there are a lot of myths and  legends that surround the game that may not be entirely truthful. Here are our top 5 common myths in blackjack.

It’s All About The Luck

One of the biggest myths about blackjack is that you need luck to win. Although a little luck never goes amiss, blackjack is a game that takes skill.

Knowledge of the rules and a basic strategy is the sure fire way to increase your odds of winning when it comes down to it, so put that lucky rabbits foot away and concentrate on the cards!

You Need a Photographic Memory

If this myth were true, there would be a lot less people sat around the casino tables! People think that in order to count cards you need a photographic memory when in fact, card counting only requires simple maths (if there is such a thing!).

Practising your card counting at home is the best way to improve your concentration and skills.

As previously mentioned, the maths in Blackjack is only simple. Everyone seems to think that you need to be able to work out the probability of getting which ever card you need, or want, or don’t want…and so on.

To set you all at ease, the only numeracy skills you really need to play Blackjack is the ability to count to 21, add and subtract to get to 21, and be able to count in general.

If you struggle with any of that, you’re most likely not old enough to be within 10 foot of a casino anyway, so don’t worry too much.

You MUST Get to 21!

Yes yes, one of the aims of Blackjack is to reach a final score of 21, but that doesn’t mean that’s the only way you can rake in the chips.

The overall objective is to beat the dealer, and if your trying you hardest to get your hand to 21 then chances are your going to bust before he does, and then the fun’s over and you’ve lost!

Just make sure you don’t beat the dealer too literally…

Bad Players = Bad Game

This is one of the more ironic myths on the list. Some players believe that being at a table with a bad player can cause you to lose, which may seem correct at face value, but is different when thought about properly.

A bad player is helping no one when they make a god awful move or implement a poor strategy, least of all the dealer.

So in effect, bad players can actually help you win by stopping the dealer from winning, so stop being a nuisance and sit down at the table!
